Mohawks doubled by Green Gaels, Game 4 Thursday

HAMPTON – The Elora Mohawks will get the opportunity to win the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League’s championship series on their home floor after they were doubled 8-4 by the Green Gaels of Clarington Tuesday night at the Darlington Sports Centre.

The Mohawks lead the best-of-five series 2-1 and Game 4 is set for Thursday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

Tuesday, the Gaels led 3-2 at the end of the first period and scored first in the second period before Elora scored twice to tie the score seven minutes into the middle frame. The Mohawks wouldn’t score again as the Green Gaels shot ahead 7-4 by the end of the second and they scored the only goal of the third.

The Gaels broke the 4-4 tie with a pair of goals 36 seconds apart, the second one coming with 7:30 to go in the second period.

Hyatt Welsh connected for two goals and an assist for Elora while Cole Spear and Kurtis Woodland also scored. Klayton Hoelscher had two assists while Woodland, Tyrus Rehanek and A.J. Skirving each had one.

Adam Kitchen and Adam Poitras tallied twice each for the Gaels while single goals were added by Bryce Tolmie, Owen Boyle, Tyler Stinson and Brock Haley. Jeremy McWatters assisted on three of the goals while Brenden Lundy, Boyle and Kitchen each had two assists and Stinson, Poitras, Haley and Matt Shand had one each.

The teams each fired 38 shots on net and Elora went 2-for-4 on its power play while the Gaels went 1-for-3.

Landon Kells took the loss in the Mohawks’ net with 30 saves while Steven Walsh made 34 saves for the win for Clarington.

Game time Thursday is 8 p.m.

If the Gaels win Thursday, the series is to return to Hampton for the deciding game Friday at 8 p.m.
