New owners for Royals announced Monday

GUELPH – The Intercounty Baseball League and Guelph Royals are to announce new owners for the team at a news conference at Hastings Stadium Monday morning.

The IBL and past owner Jim Rooney, a former IBL commissioner, have been looking for new owners since the team pulled out of league play June 21 with a 1-15 record. That record, the cost of running the team and Rooney’s health were cited as reasons

The Royals are expected to be back in the league next season in time for its 100th season. The league’s first season was 1919.

The team did continue to run its summer camp in July.
