Nighthawks to play home games Saturday nights

GUELPH – The Guelph Nighthawks have made Saturday at 7 p.m. the primary time for their home games in the Canadian Elite Basketball League’s inaugural season.

All but one of the Nighthawks’ 10 home games in their first season are set for that time. The other one, their final home game of the regular season, is to go Friday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m.

The CEBL released its first ever regular-season schedule Thursday morning and each team in the league is to play each of the other five teams in the league four times apiece – twice at home and twice at their home facilities.

All of the Guelph team’s trips to play its western Canada rivals will be one-off trips and all but one of the Nighthawks’ games will be played on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday. The exception is a game Wednesday, June 5 against the Hamilton Honey Badgers at Hamilton.

Also, all but one of the Guelph squad’s game carries a 7 p.m. starting time. The only one that doesn’t is Guelph’s other game in Hamilton. It’s slated for Aug. 3 at 5 p.m.

The Nighthawks’ season is to start on the road May 9 against the Fraser Valley Bandits in Abbotsford, B.C.

First home game is set for May 11 against the Saskatchewan Rattlers. The Nighthawks are to play their home games at the Sleeman Centre.

Final game of the regular season for the Nighthawks is scheduled for Aug. 15 against the Rattlers at Saskatoon.

Home facilities for the other teams in the league are to be the Edmonton Expo Centre for the Edmonton Stingers, Abbotsford Centre for the Fraser Valley Bandits, FirstOntario Centre for the Hamilton Honey Badgers, Meridian Centre in St. Catharines for the Niagara River Lions and Saskatoon’s SaskTel Centre for the Saskatchewan Rattlers.
