Norwell extends lead in senior girls’ volleyball
PALMERSTON – The Norwell Varsity Reds gave themselves a little breathing room atop the District 4 high school senior girls’ volleyball league standings when they returned from the holiday break with a sweep of the Emmanuel Christian Eagles Wednesday.
Norwell won 25-8, 25-11, 25-20.
The win, the eighth of the season in league play for the Varsity Reds, kept Norwell undefeated in D4 play and it extended their lead to four points over the second-place Eagles (6-2).
The Westside Thunder is third at 4-4 while the Wellington Heights Wolverines and Erin Raiders are tied for fourth at 2-5 and the Centre Dufferin Royals are sixth at 1-7.
In the league’s other match Wednesday, Westside swept Centre Dufferin 3-0, winning 25-18, 25-19, 25-18.
A match between Wellington Heights and Erin was postponed until Monday.
The Westside Thunder and Norwell Varsity Reds remained in a tie for first place with 6-2 records as both posted 3-1 wins Wednesday.
Wellington Heights Wolverines are third at 5-2, but had a match with the fifth-place Erin Raiders (2-5) postponed until Monday.
Emmanuel Christian Eagles are fourth at 4-4 while the Centre Dufferin Royals are sixth at 0-8.
Wednesday, Westside defeated Centre Dufferin 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-14, 25-18) and Norwell downed Emmanuel Christian 3-1 (25-11, 25-8, 20-25, 25-8).
