Norwell sweeps into senior volleyball final

PALMERSTON – The Norwell Varsity Reds gained a berth in the District 4 high school senior girls’ volleyball championship match Tuesday when they swept the Westside Thunder in semifinal play.

The Varsity Reds won 25-7, 25-6, 25-15.

Norwell is to host the Emmanuel Christian Eagles in Friday’s final. Game time is 12 p.m.

The Varsity Reds finished atop the league at 10-0 while the Eagles were second at 8-2. Norwell won both its regular-season matches with Emmanuel Christian as the Varsity Reds prevailed 2-1 in a mini-tournament at Emmanuel Christian Dec. 20 and 3-0 at Norwell Jan. 10.

Norwell will be looking to extend its streak of consecutive D10 senior title as the Varsity Reds have won it 13 consecutive years.

 

JUNIOR

Norwell will also be looking to extend its hold on the D4 junior title as the Varsity Reds have won it each of the last three years and nine times in the last 10 years.

The Varsity Reds advanced to this year’s final with a 3-0 victory over the Wellington Heights Wolverines Tuesday in the semifinals.

Norwell won 24-21, 25-18, 25-16.

The Varsity Reds will play the Westside Thunder in this year’s final Friday at noon at Westside.

Tuesday, the Thunder defeated the Emmanuel Christian Eagles 3-1 in the other semifinal. Westside won 25-17, 17-25, 25-16, 25-14.

Westside and Norwell finished the regular season tied for first at 8-2. The teams split their matches with Westside winning 3-0 at Norwell in their season opener Dec. 4 and Norwell won 2-1 in a mini tournament at Westside Dec. 20.
