Norwell, Westside claim boys’ volleyball crowns

PALMERSTON – The Norwell Varsity Reds and Westside Thunder captured D4 high schools boys’ volleyball titles Thursday at Norwell.

The host Varsity Reds won the senior title on their home court with a 3-0 sweep of the Emmanuel Christian Eagles of Fergus. The Varsity Reds won 25-6, 25-17, 25-17.

The win completes an undefeated trek through D4 play for the Varsity Reds as they’d won all 10 of their regular-season matches and won by a forfeit in the semifinals.

Norwell advances to the two-day CWOSSA AA championship tournament at Simcoe that is to start Wednesday.

Emmanuel Christian moves on to Thursday’s one-day CWOSSA A championship tournament at Breslau.

Westside of Orangeville took the D4 junior crown as it surprised with a 3-1 victory over Norwell. The Thunder won 25-14, 25-17, 24-26, 25-17.

Norwell had finished the regular season in first at 9-1 while Westside was second at 7-3. The lone loss for the Varsity Reds was by a 3-1 score to Westside at Westside Oct. 4 while Norwell won 2-1 in the mini tournament at Wellington Heights Oct. 11.

Westside moves on the CWOSSA AA tournament at Simcoe while Wellington Heights is D4’s representative at the CWOSSA A tournament at Breslau.
