Oaks nipped by JJD Sports for first loss of season

BRAMPTON – The Guelph Oaks suffered their first loss of the Ontario Soccer League Regional South season as they were edged 3-2 by JJD Sports Sunday night at Avondale Stadium.

Maximillian Raab struck for both goals for the Oaks while JJD Sports received goals from Fredrick Anson, Malik Bernard and Shawn Gooden.

The loss put an end to a nine-game undefeated streak and followed a 7-2 win over BAS at the D.A. Morrison field in Brampton Friday night.

Martino Raso, Matt Nightingale and Michael Ojkic scored twice each for the locals in that match while Raab had the other goal.

Daniel Assing and Sebastian Lopez connected for a goal apiece for BAS.

The Oaks lead the nine-team league at 7-1-2 for 23 points. JJD Sports is sixth at 2-5-1 and BAS is eighth at 2-5-0.

The Guelph side has played at least two more league games than any other team in the league and they’ve played twice as many games as third-place Mississauga Croatia (3-0-2).

The Oaks are to play JJD Sports again Saturday at 2 p.m. at Centennial Bowl.
