Ottawa slips by Storm in shootout
GUELPH — Sasha Chmelevski’s goal in a shootout lifted the Ottawa 67’s to a 2-1 victory over the Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.
Chmelevski was Ottawa’s third shooter and the only player to score in the shootout.
Guelph’s Alexey Toropchenko had scored with two minutes to go in regulation time to force overtime which was scoreless. Cam Hills and Isaac Ratcliffe picked up assists.
Jacob Cascagnette had opened the scoring for Ottawa just shy of the three-minute mark of the third period. Assists went to Tye Felhaber and Travis Barron.
Anthony Popovich was tagged with the shootout loss in net for Guelph while Olivier Tremblay was the winning netminder for Ottawa. The 67’s outshot the Storm 38-28.
The Storm (27-21-2-4) is tied for sixth in the Western Conference standings with the Saginaw Spirit (26-20-8-0). They’re a point behind the Owen Sound Attack (27-20-2-5) and four behind the London Knights (30-21-2-2).
The Storm is to play a home-and-home series with the Erie Otters (16-29-6-3) this weekend. They’re to play the Erie Insurance Arena Sunday at 5 p.m. and at the Sleeman Centre Monday at 2 p.m.
