Parot claims top two spots in Champions Open Welcome

ROCKWOOD – Samuel Parot of Chile rode horses to first- and second-place finishes in Thursday’s Open Welcome at Angelstone Tournaments’ Champions meet.

Parot guided Quick Du Pottier to a fault-free ride through the jump-off with a time of 31.645 seconds to take the victory. He was second on Atlantis in 32.271 seconds. Those were the only two fault-free rides in the jump-off that cracked the 34-second barrier.

Ian Millar was third on Dixson in 34.124 seconds while Angelstone’s Keean White was fourth on Corette in 34.671 seconds.

A total of 12 of the 29 horse/rider combinations competed in the jump-off after going clear in the opening round.

Half of the jump-off field recorded clear rounds as Itty Bitty ridden by Kelly Soleau-Millar was fifth in 36.625 seconds and Riesling De Milvrault with Shannon Clifford aboard was sixth in 36.635 seconds.

Feature event of the meet is the $86,600 Champions Grand Prix. It’s a field of 21 including the top four from the Open Welcome and is to go Saturday at 6 p.m. in Angelstone’s main stadium.
