Patriots battle back to tie Pollock final again

WINGHAM – The Mount Forest Patriots scored twice in the final minute and a half of the game to double the Wingham Ironmen 4-2 in Game 4 of the Provincial Junior Hockey League Pollock Division final Wednesday night at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex.

The result leaves the best-of-seven series tied 2-2. The visiting team has won each time out.

The Patriots never trailed in Wednesday’s game and all six goals were scored at the same end of the rink. Mount Forest scored twice in the first period while Wingham scored twice in the second.

Actually, the same thing happened in Game 2 of the series when the Patriots won 5-3. That means all 14 goals scored in the two games at Wingham have been scored at the same end of the rink.

Wednesday, the Patriots outshot the Ironmen 42-32 and went 1-for-2 on their power play while holding Wingham scoreless on three power plays.

Ryley Cribbin had a pair of goals for Mount Forest while Brody Leblanc and Jack Birkett added single goals. Getting one assist apiece were Owen Rahn, Birkett, Thomas Haffner and Troy Weber.

Matt Tolton and Kyle Stanbury scored for Wingham while Logan Tolton, Jamie Huber, Carter Collinson and Shane Vollmer each had one assist.

Aidan Quish stopped 30 shots to get the win in the Mount Forest net in his first start of the playoffs while Devon Carson had 38 saves for Wingham.

Fifth game of the series is set for Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

Game 6 is to be played at Wingham Saturday starting at 7 p.m.

It becomes a 3-in-3 weekend if the seventh game is necessary as it’s scheduled for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Mount Forest.

Pollock champion is to play the Carruthers Division champion Alliston Hornets in the North Conference final. Alliston swept the Penetang Kings 4-0 in the Carruthers final.
