Patriots blank Wingham to clinch first in division
WINGHAM – David Lobsinger stopped all 20 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season as the Mount Forest Patriots blanked the Wingham Ironmen 2-0 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Wescast Complex rink.
The win clinched a first-place finish in the Pollock Division for the Patriots.
After a scoreless first period, Mount Forest scored once in the second and once in the third for the win.
Klayton Hoelscher and Ryan Maksymyk had a goal apiece while Shawn Lantz had the only assist awarded in the game.
The Patriots outshot the Ironmen 37-20 and neither team scored on its power play – the Patriots getting five power plays and Wingham getting two.
Wyatt Nicholson faced 37 shots in the Wingham net.
The win ups Mount Forest’s record to 29-7-0-2 and leaves them seven points ahead of the runner-up Walkerton Hawks (25-10-2-1) with two games to play in its regular season.
The Patriots are to wrap up their regular season this weekend as they’re to host the seventh-place Hanover Barons (6-30-0-3) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex and play the Walkerton Hawks at the Walkerton Community Centre Sunday at 4:50 p.m.
