Patriots come back to dump Hanover

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots rebounded from a two-goal deficit to drop the Hanover Barons 8-2 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

Hanover led 2-0 midway through the game on a power-play goal by Liam Bell late in the first period and an unassisted marker by Jasper Akiwenizie in the second.

The Patriots tied things up by the end of the second before hitting for six goals in the third.

Ryley Cribbin and Klayton Hoelscher scored twice apiece for Mount Forest while single goals were netted by Haydon Coulter, Evan Kuhl, Michael Stefanelli and Jack Francis. Troy Weber assisted on three of the goals while Derick Acheson, Dylan Brown and Blair Butchart each had two assists and Derek Williams, Luke Hoelscher, Brandon Richardson, Kuhl, Stefanelli, Coulter and Blake Lewis had one each.

The Patriots outshot Hanover 55-29 including a 23-10 advantage in the third period.

Aidan Quish was in the Mount Forest net for the win while Luke Aulthouse was charged with the loss in the Hanover net.

Both teams scored a power-play goal, Hanover on five opportunities and Mount Forest on one.

The result leaves the Patriots at 15-4-0-0, tied for first with the Walkerton Hawks (14-3-1-1). Hanover is tied for sixth with the Goderich Flyers, both with a 3-13-0-2 record.

The Patriots and Barons are to play again at Mount Forest Saturday at 8 p.m.
