Patriots drop Mitchell to top Pollock Division

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots struck for four goals in the third period as they dropped the Mitchell Hawks 8-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Patriots grabbed sole possession of first place in the Pollock Division with the win. They lead with a 19-4-0-0 record and 38 points while the Walkerton Hawks (17-6-1-1) are second with 36, Kincardine Bulldogs (15-8-1-3) third with 34, Wingham Ironmen (14-9-1-1) fourth with 30 and Mitchell (12-12-1-1) fifth with 26.

Sunday, the Patriots led 2-0 after the first period and 4-0 after the second.

Ryley Cribbin scored twice for the Patriots while single goals were added by Brendon Aitken, Troy Weber, Brock Philips, Blair Butchart, Luke Hoelscher and Klayton Hoelscher. Dylan Brown, Haydon Coulter, Ryan Maksymyk and Philips each had two assists while Aitken, Jack Birkett, Evan Kuhl, Cribbin, Klayton Hoelscher, Butchart, Shawn Lantz and Weber each had one assist.

Jake Finlayson scored for Mitchell midway through the third period. Brandon Williams and Jarett Bogdon assisted on the play.

The Patriots outshot the Hawks 39-34 and went 2-for-3 on their power play while Mitchell was scoreless on two power plays.

David Lobsinger collected the win in net for Mount Forest while Tyler Parr took the loss for Mitchell.

The Patriots have a pair of road games next weekend as they’re to play at Kincardine Saturday at 7:25 p.m. and at Walkerton Sunday at 2:20 p.m.
