Patriots handed another loss on home ice

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots suffered their third consecutive loss on home ice Saturday night when they were downed 5-1 by the Kincardine Bulldogs at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Patriots haven’t won at home since tripling the Goderich Flyers 9-3 Dec. 23. Since then they’ve lost 5-4 in overtime to the Mitchell Hawks and 4-1 to the Wingham Ironmen.

Saturday, Kincardine scored the first four goals of the game before Mount Forest netted its goal early in the third period. The Bulldogs led 2-0 at the end of the first period and 4-0 after the second.

Hayden Coulter scored the goal for Mount Forest while Ryan Maksymyk and Shawn Lantz assisted on the play.

Trevor Donaldson, Robert White, Keegan Angel, Brett Burrows and Mike Fiegehen each had a goal for Kincardine. Brady Richards, Tyler Sutter and Logan Freiburger collected two assists apiece while Burrows, Hunter Robins-Gibbons and Logan Swanton each had one.

Kincardine had some success on its power play while the Patriots didn’t have success on theirs. The Bulldogs went 3-for-10 and held Mount Forest scoreless on nine power plays.

Kincardine outshot the Patriots 43-36 with Craig Luinstra picking up the win in net. David Lobsinger took the loss, making 38 saves for Mount Forest.

With six games to go in their regular season, the Patriots hold a five-point lead over the Walkerton Hawks atop the Pollock Division standings. Mount Forest is at 26-7-0-1 and is followed by Walkerton at 23-10-1-1, Kincardine at 20-10-1-3, Mitchell at 20-13-1-1, Wingham at 19-12-1-3, Goderich at 6-25-0-3 and the Hanover Barons at 6-27-0-3.

The Patriots are to play the Flyers in Goderich Sunday at 2:25 p.m. and host the Flyers Jan. 20 at 8 p.m.
