Patriots hit in overtime, one win from series victory

MOUNT FOREST – Klayton Hoelscher’s goal after just more than two minutes of overtime lifted the Mount Forest Patriots to a 4-3 victory over the Wingham Ironmen in Provincial Junior Hockey League Pollock Division semifinal play Tuesday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The win gives the Patriots a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The Patriots had to come from behind to force the overtime. Dylan Brown’s goal for the hosts with just over two and a half minutes to go in regulation time forced the overtime.

Mount Forest scored the first two and the last two goals of the game while Wingham’s three goals were sandwiched between them.

The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period and Wingham scored the only goal of the second.

Klayton Hoelscher finished with a pair of goals while Ryley Cribbin and Brown had one apiece. Blair Butchart collected two assists while single assists went to Shawn Lantz, Brock Philips, Jack Francis, Cribbin, Ryan Maksymyk and Michael Stefanelli.

Wingham received goals from Kyle Stanbury, Andrew Heibein and Blake Buchanan. Assists were awarded to Carter Collinson, Jamie Huber, Kyle Langlois, Tanner Hertel and Stanbury.

The Patriots outshot Wingham 42-35 and went 1-for-9 on their power play while Wingham went 2-for-5.

David Lobsinger made 32 saves in the Patriots net for the win while Jamie Brock took the loss for Wingham despite making 38 saves.

Fourth game of the series is slated for Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Wingham’s Wescast Complex.

Winner of the series is to play the winner of the division’s other semifinal between the Walkerton Hawks and Kincardine Bulldogs in the division final.
