Patriots nipped by Stayner in second game of North final

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots fell behind 2-0 in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s North Conference championship series following a 4-3 loss to the Stayner Siskins Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Patriots never led in the game, but never trailed by more than a goal.

Stayner was up 2-1 at the end of the first period and 3-2 after the second.

Brendon Aitken, Ryley Cribbin and Michael Stefanelli scored for the Patriots while Klayton Hoelscher had two assists and Dylan Brown, Cribbin, Thomas Haffner and Blair Butchart had one apiece.

Lucas Jeffery, Ty Kulba, JD Falconer and Kyle Linney each had a goal for Stayner. Jordan Taylor assisted on two of the goals while single assists were awarded to Kulba, Jeffery, Ben Hughes and Austin Fischer.

Mount Forest outshot Stayner 43-41 and went 2-for-4 on its power play while the Siskins were scoreless on two power plays.

David Lobsinger was charged with the loss in net for the Patriots and Marcus Semiao picked up the win for Stayner.

Game 3 of the best-of-seven series, which is a provincial quarter-final, is to go Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Stayner Memorial Arena.
