Patriots surrender four in second in loss to Goderich
GODERICH – The Mount Forest Patriots surrendered four goals in the second period as they were doubled 4-2 by the Goderich Flyers in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday at the Goderich Memorial Recreation Centre.
After a scoreless first period, the teams scored once each in the first four minutes of the second before Goderich scored three in a row later in the period to chase Patriots starting goaltender Aidan Quish. David Lobsinger finished the game.
Goderich led 4-1 at the end of the second and Mount Forest scored midway through the third, but couldn’t get any closer.
Blair Butchart and Klayton Hoelscher scored the goals for the Patriots while assists were awarded to Klayton Hoelscher, Michael Stefanelli and Shawn Lantz.
The Flyers received goals from Trent Michie, Matt Bean, Cody Treble and Braeden Duncan. Morgan Benniwies picked up two assists while Duncan, Noah Kuno, Chase Meurs and Trent Buchanan each had one.
The Patriots outshot Goderich 49-38. Kevin Linker picked up the win in net for the Flyers while Quish took the loss for Mount Forest. He faced 24 shots while Lobsinger made 14 saves.
The Patriots are second in the Pollock Division at 7-2-0-0 while the Walkerton Hawks lead at 7-2-1-0. Goderich is sixth at 3-6-0-0.
The Patriots have a pair of games against Carruthers Division opponents. They’re to play the Orillia Terriers (1-6-0-0) at the West Orillia Sports Centre Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and host the Huntsville Otters (0-6-0-0) Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
