Patriots use power-play to drop Kincardine
KINCARDINE – Three power-play goals proved to be the difference for the Mount Forest Patriots as they doubled the Kincardine Bulldogs 6-3 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre.
The Patriots scored one power-play goal in the first period and the other two in the third to secure the win. Kincardine’s three goals all came in the second while the Patriots also scored three times in the middle frame.
Mount Forest led 1-0 at the end of the first and 4-3 after the second and secured the win with the two thid-period goals.
Blair Butchart led the Patriots with two goals and two assists while Klayton Hoelscher also scored twice and Michael Stefanelli and Ryley Cribbin added single goals. Ryan Maksymyk had two assists while Luke Hoelscher, Derick Acheson and Cribbin had one each.
Kincardine received single goals from Keegan Angel, Jordan Caskenette and Logan Freiburger and single assists were awarded to Joshua Traynor, Damien Demarco-Sutton, Freiburger, Mike Fiegehen and Caskenette.
The Patriots went 3-for-8 on their power play while Kincardine went 1-for-10 with a manpower advantage. Mount Forest outshot the Bulldogs 40-39.
David Lobsinger was the winning goalie for the Patriots while Craig Luinstra took the loss.
Mount Forest leads the Pollock Division at 23-5-0-0 while Kincardine is second at 18-10-1-3. Walkerton Hawks are third, two points behind Kincardine at 18-8-1-1, but have four games in hand on the Bulldogs. Wingham Ironmen are fourth at 16-10-1-3 and are followed by the Mitchell Hawks at 15-12-1-1, Goderich Flyers at 5-19-0-3 and Hanover Barons at 5-21-0-3.
Butchart leads the division in scoring with 62 points and assists with 44 and Klayton Hoelscher leads the division in goals with 30. Lobsinger’s 15 wins, 2.18 goals-against average and .929 save percentage are all division bests.
Butchart is fifth in the overall league scoring race and tied for second in assists and Klayton Hoelscher is tied for third in goals. J.D. Falconer of Stayner leads the league with 82 points and 46 goals and Ben Hughes of Stayner has a league-high 49 assists.
The Patriots are to host Goderich Saturday at 8 p.m.
