Ponsonby Sting claim OASA mite B bronze

PONSONBY – The Ponsonby Sting finished as bronze medalists in the B category of the Ontario Amateur Softball Association’s mite championship tournament Sunday at the Ponsonby diamonds.

The Sting downed the Havelock Express 19-8 in the bronze-medal match. Ponsonby was in the bronze-medal match after suffering a 9-1 loss to the Wellesley Wildcats in the semifinals earlier in the day.

Ponsonby had finished atop its pool with a pair of wins Saturday at Elora as the Sting downed the Kitchener-Waterloo Hallman Twins 12-1 and Havelock 10-7.

West Carleton Electric won the gold-medal match 18-4 over Wellesley.

West Carleton marched undefeated through the tournament as they had defeated Wellesley 19-8 and the Curve Lake Trappers 14-6 in pool play and Havelock 20-6 in the semifinals.

The Napanee Calderwood Automation Express won the mite A title at Ponsonby Sunday with a 7-2 victory over the Baden Pirates in the gold-medal match. Tara doubled the Springbrook Royals 10-5 in the bronze-medal game.

Napanee had gone undefeated in pool play Saturday, beating Baden 10-7, Tavistock Athletics 21-0 and Sebringville Sting 13-10 before edging Tara 14-13 in the semifinals.
