Predators out of U19 nationals after quarter-final setback
LEDUC, Alta. – The Ontario champion Guelph Predators were knocked out of the Canadian under-19 ringette championship tournament Friday when they dropped a 4-1 decision to Alberta champion Calgary in the quarter-finals.
Calgary scored twice in each period for the win while Rachel Woods scored for the Predators at 5:45 of the second period. That goal, assisted by Melanie Hatch and Taryn McManus, came after Calgary had scored three times.
Jennica Murray had two goals for Calgary, competing as Alberta One, while Jada Brisebois and Jenna Wolsey also scored.
Alberta One outshot Guelph 34-32. Samantha Gorgi was in net for the locals.
In the other quarter-final games, Quebec Two (Rive Sud) edged Ontario Two (Richmond Hill) 6-5, Manitoba downed Nova Scotia 5-2 and Alberta Two (St. Albert Mission) nipped Alberta Four (Edmonton Elite) 3-2.
In the semifinals, Quebec Two edged Alberta One 3-2 and Manitoba downed Alberta Two 8-3.
Quebec Two and Manitoba are to play in Saturday’s gold-medal game while Alberta One and Alberta Two are to battle in the bronze-medal match.
