Predators split pair of Day 2 games in U12 tourney

GUELPH – The Guelph Predators split a pair of games Friday on the second day of Ontario Ringette’s four-day U12 Provincial Event in the Royal City.

The Predators started their day with a 6-2 victory over Kitchener and finished it with a 7-5 loss to Richmond Hill.

Against Kitchener, the Predators jumped ahead early with a pair of goals and they led 2-1 at the end of the first period. Kitchener pulled even with a goal early in the second, but the Predators responded with four in a row for the win.

Abby Leclerc scored four of the goals for Guelph while Maddy Lecompte and Grace Hendry added single goals. Roslyn Curtis assisted on three of the goals while Alex Boyko had two assists and Hendry, Fahlyn Lamot and Erica Hancock had one each.

Avery Holmes and Taylor Holmes scored a goal apiece for Kitchener and Avery Holmes and Kasey O’Connor each had one assist.

In the other game, the Predators and Richmond Hill took turns going on scoring runs. After the teams scored once each, Richmond Hill took control with three in a row. However, the Predators replied with four in a row, but Richmond Hill followed with three in a row to complete the scoring in the game.

Leclerc tallied twice for the locals while single goals were added by Curtis, Hendry and Boyko. Lecompte and Boyko each had two assists while Avery Black had one.

Agnes Laliberte scored four of the goals for Richmond Hill while Isabel Ianni, Carlyn Joy and Alexa Hamilton also scored. Assists were awarded to Doris Xu, Lila Vittoria, Joy, Laliberte and Ianni.

Richmond Hill leads the division at 3-0-0 following Day 2 play while Markham follows at 2-1-0. Waterloo and Gloucester/Cumberland are tied at 1-1-1 while the Predators are at 1-2-0 and Kitchener trails at 0-3-0.

Top three in the division advance to Sunday’s playoff round.

The Predators are to complete their preliminary round Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. game against Markham at Exhibition arena and a 3 p.m. game at the Victoria Road arena.

All of Sunday’s games are to be played at the West End arena.
