Provincial West Gryphs edged by Club Italia Juventus

NIAGARA – The Guelph Gryphons suffered a 2-1 loss to Club Italia Juventus in Ontario Soccer League Provincial West play Sunday night at Niagara’s Club Italia Field.

Ben Vanzant scored the lone goal for the Gryphons while Harry Fyke and Johnny Badhi netted single goals for Juventus.

The loss was the fourth one-goal loss of the season for the Gryphons who are seventh in the 10-team league at 2-5-1. Juventus is second at 5-2-0.

The Gryphons are to host JJD Sports Hustlers in the second round of Alf Beese Cup play Thursday at Centennial Bowl. Game time is 8:45 p.m.

The Hustlers play in the OSL’s Provincial Elite league and have a 2-4-1 record in league play this season. They had a bye in the opening round of Cup play while the Gryphons won their opening-round game 2-0 over Toronto Celtics May 12 at Aurora.

The locals are to return to league play July 19 with a game against the Burlington Titans (1-5-1) at Eastview Park starting at 8:45 p.m.
