Redcoats Firsts finish fourth after loss to Hamilton

GUELPH – The Guelph Redcoats completed their Niagara Rugby Union Men’s A1 Division regular season with a 71-7 loss to the Hamilton Hornets Saturday at Exhibition Park.

The win was the first of the season for the Hornets who had 11 tries in the game while the Redcoats had one.

The Redcoats finish the regular season in fourth place at 3-7-0.

Fergus Highland completed its season in fifth at 2-6-2 following a 69-12 loss to the Burlington Centaurs. Burlington is second in the league at 8-1-0 with a game against the third-place Niagara Wasps next weekend.

The Redcoats are to host Highland in the opening round of the Men’s NRU Cup Sept. 9 at 3 p.m.

 

NRU Men’s A2

The Redcoats edged the Hamilton Hornets 43-38 Saturday at Exhibition Park to wrap up their season.

The Redcoats and Hornets finish tied for fourth with identical 4-6-0 records.

Top two in the league join the six A1 division teams in the Men’s NRU Cup that starts Sept. 9.

 

Women’s NRU Cup

Fergus Highland finished as Cup Consolation finalists after they suffered a 37-10 loss to the Brantford Harlequins at Brantford Saturday.

Stoney Creek Camels won the Cup final 50-5 over the Burlington Centaurs at Stoney Creek Saturday.

In last week’s semifinals, Stoney Creek edged Highland 50-43 while Burlington downed Brantford 33-15.
