Rocks, Shelburne to start A playoff series Friday

ELORA — The Elora Rocks and Shelburne Muskies are to begin their Western Ontario Athletic Association senior A men’s hockey playoffs Friday at Shelburne.

The Rocks and Shelburne are to meet in a best-of-three series that is to be completed in four days assuming there are no postponements due to weather making driving conditions treacherous.

First game of the series is slated to be played Friday at Shelburne’s Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex.

Game 2 is to be played Saturday at the Elora and District Community Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

If a third game is needed to decide a winner in the series, it’s to go Monday at Shelburne starting at 8:30 p.m.

The league’s A playoffs are for the teams that finished in the bottom six positions in the 14-team league.

The Muskies were 11th at 7-11-2-0 while the Rocks were 14th at 3-17-0-0.

Other teams in the A playoffs are ninth-place Huron East Centenaires (10-10-0-0), 10th-place Milverton 4-Wheel Drives (8-12-0-0), 12th-place Shallow Lake Crushers (5-13-1-0) and 13th-place Lucknow Lancers (3-14-0-3).

Huron East and Milverton have byes in the A quarter-finals while Shallow Lake and Lucknow are to meet in the other series.

If Elora eliminates Shelburne, the Rocks will play Huron East in the A semifinals.

Shelburne won both of the regular-season meetings between the teams — 8-4 at Shelburne Nov. 26 and 7-4 at Elora Jan. 13.
