Ross, Bishop Mac claim D10 boys’ volleyball titles
GUELPH – The Ross Royals completed their unbeaten run through the District 10 high schools senior boys’ volleyball season with a 3-1 win over the Centennial Spartans in the league’s championship game Friday night at Centennial.
The Royals won 25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21.
The win was their 14th in a row in D10 play this season and their 20th consecutive win in D10 play. Their last loss in their own league was a 3-1 loss to the Guelph CVI Green Gaels at GCVI Oct. 11 of last year.
Ross finished first at the completion of this year’s regular season with a 14-0 record while GCVI was second at 11-3 and Centennial third at 10-4.
The Royals won their quarter-final and semifinal playoff game as did the Spartans who defeated the Gaels in the semifinals.
Ross advances to the CWOSSA AAA championship tournament at Waterloo and Kitchener starting Thursday.
The Lourdes Crusaders will be the D10 entry in the CWOSSA AA tournament at Simcoe that is also to start Thursday.
The Bishop Macdonell Celtics swept the Centre Wellington Falcons 3-0 to claim the D10 junior title Friday night at Centennial.
Bishop Mac won 25-23, 25-15, 25-15.
While Centre Wellington had finished first at the completion of the regular season at 10-4 and Bishop Mac was second at 9-5, the Celtics had the Falcons’ number during this year as they also won both regular-season meetings between the teams.
Both teams entered the final knowing they were going to participate in a CWOSSA tournament no matter the result of Friday’s match.
Bishop Mac moves on to the CWOSSA AA tournament at Simcoe that is to start Thursday while Centre Wellington will compete in the CWOSSA AAA tournament at Waterloo and Kitchener that is also to start Thursday.
