Ross, GCVI headed for field hockey showdown

GUELPH – The Ross Royals and Guelph CVI Green Gaels kept pace with one another atop the District 4/10 high schools girls’ field hockey standings as both won twice Wednesday.

On their home field, the Royals edged the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 1-0 and downed the Centre Wellington Falcons 6-0.

At Orangeville, the Gaels blanked the Norwell Varsity Reds 7-0 and Orangeville Bears 4-0.

Ross and GCVI are tied atop the league’s standings as each have four wins in four outings. Bishop Mac, Centennial Spartans and Orangeville are tied for third at 2-1-1 while the Centre Dufferin Royals are sixth at 1-1-2, Centre Wellington seventh at 0-3-1 and Norwell and Wellington Heights Wolverines tied for eighth at 0-4-0.

The Gaels and Ross, who met in last year’s championship match, are to meet Oct. 11 on the final day of the regular season.

Sarah Taylor scored the game’s only goal while Jordan Ronan was credited with the shutout.

 

Guelph CVI 7 Norwell 0

Lorraine Vandermyden hit for four goals for the Gaels while Jasmine Hasmatali scored twice and Samantha Hood added the other goal. Lou Meloche picked up the shutout.

 

Ross 6 Centre Wellington 0

Sarah Taylor had a hat trick for Ross while Jasmine Fox, Courtney Phillips and Paisley Frasson added single goals. Jordan Ronan had the shutout.

 

Guelph CVI 4 Orangeville 0

Centre Dufferin 1 Wellington Heights 0

Wiley McGowan scored for Centre Dufferin.

 

Orangeville 6 Norwell 0

Megan Rook had four goals for Orangeville while Chloe Miller and Madison Elliott also scored.

 

Centennial 0 Centre Dufferin 0

Sarah Dykstra of Centennial and Shannan Armstrong of Centre Dufferin recorded the shutouts.
