Ross hockey girls qualify for OFSAA tourney

BRANTFORD – The Ross Royals are headed to the provincial OFSAA girls AAA high school hockey championship tournament.

The Royals claimed the CWOSSA AAA title Tuesday with a 1-0 victory over the St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener at Brantford’s Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre.

Aniela Breen scored the game’s only goal with help from Olivia Sarabura.

The Royals gained their berth in the final with a 3-2 victory in overtime over the Bluevale Knights of Kitchener in the semifinals earlier in the day.

Sarabura scored twice in that game while Sarah Taylor had the other goal.

The other semifinal saw St. Mary’s down the Brantford CI Mustangs 3-1.

Lane Yuke had two goals for St. Mary’s while Taylor O’Kane scored the other one.

Grace Bellamy scored for BCI.

The OFSAA tournament is to be held March 21 to 23 at Cambridge with games at the Hespeler Memorial Arena and Cambridge Sports Park.
