Ross rugby girls lone undefeated squad in league

GUELPH — And then there was one.

The three-time defending champion Ross Royals stand as the lone undefeated team in the District 4/10 high school girls’ rugby league following a 40-0 triumph over the Orangeville Bears Wednesday at Ross.

The win was the fourth in as many league outings for the Royals while the loss was the first in league play for Orangeville this season.

Saneika Patterson scored two tries for Ross while Anna Bernardi kicked five converts. Scoring one try apiece were Michelle Hopkins, Aniela Breen, Vanessa Thongsomsanith and Paisley Frasson.

Ross leads the nine-team league at 4-0-0 while Orangeville and Erin Raiders are each at 3-1-0, Centre Wellington Falcons are at 3-2-0, Bishop Macdonell Celtics ae at 2-1-1, Guelph CVI Green Gaels are at 2-2-0. Centennial Spartans are at 1-3-1, Wellington Heights Wolverines are at 1-4-0 and Westside Thunder are at 0-5-0.

Madison Hodgson collected three tries and a convert for Centre Wellington while Michaela Little hit for two tries and a convert. Mel Hatch also scored two tries while Heather Vink had one try and Dakota Denney added a convert.

Tea Smith scored both tries for Centennial.

 

Wellington Heights 34 Westside 12

The win was the first of the season for Wellington Heights.
