Ross rugby girls to play for OFSAA medal

MISSISSAUGA – The Ross Royals will play for a medal at the provincial high OFSAA AAA girls’ rugby championship tournament.

The Royals downed Arnprior 26-7 in the quarter-finals Tuesday morning.

Aniela Breen had a pair of tries for the Royals while single tries were added by Maddie Gundy and Saneika Patterson. Anna Bernardi kicked three converts.

Emilie Ethier had the try for Arnprior while Amanda Birmingham converted it.

The Royals scored all their points in the first half while Arnprior’s try came in the second half.

The second-seed Royals advance to play the third-seed Uxbridge Tigers in the semifinals Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Streetsville high school.

The other semifinal Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier high school in Mississauga pits the top-seed and defending champion Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils against the fourth-seed Mayfield Mavericks of Caledon.

Semifinal winners gain berths in the 2 p.m. championship match Wednesday at Xavier while the semifinal losers are to play in the bronze-medal game Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Xavier.
