Ross soccer boys in CWOSSA AAA semifinals

KITCHENER – The Ross Royals had a win and a tie to finish atop their pool following the preliminary round at the CWOSSA AAA high school boys’ soccer championship tournament at Woodside Park Tuesday.

The Royals opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over the Resurrection Phoenix of Kitchener. Nick Nowak, Duncan McHattie and Arman Moghadasi scored for Ross while Mahan Sharifi had the goal for Resurrection.

Ross followed that win with a 2-2 tie with Brantford CI Mustangs. Rocco Furfaro scored both goals for Ross while Ogi Ivanovic and Jordan White had a goal apiece for BCI.

Top two in each pool advanced to Thursday’s semifinals. Resurrection grabbed the other semifinal berth from the pool with a 2-1 edging of BCI.

Moving on from the other pool are the Cameron Heights Gaels of Kitchener and Sir John A. Macdonald Highlanders of Waterloo.

Cameron Heights downed St. John’s Green Eagles of Brantford 6-0 and edged SJAM 2-1 while SJAM blanked St. John’s 3-0.

Thursday’s semifinals at Woodside Park have Ross playing SJAM and Cameron Heights battling Resurrection. Both games are at 9:30 a.m. Winners advance to the 12:30 p.m. final.
