Ross vaults to top spot in senior rugby

GUELPH – The Ross Royals grabbed sole possession of first place in the District 4/10 high school senior boys’ rugby league as they squeaked out a 14-12 victory over the Guelph CVI Green Gaels Thursday at Ross.

While the teams scored two tries apiece, the difference proved to be two converts kicked by Ross’s Will Helyer.

Matt Duff and Liam Weir connected for a try apiece for Ross.

Owen Stirling and Sam Steinhauser collected the tries for GCVI and Steinhauser also added a convert.

Ross leads the standings at 3-0-0 while GCVI is second at 2-1-0. They’re followed by the Centre Dufferin Royals at 1-1-0 and the Erin Raiders and Centennial Spartans who are both at 0-2-0.

 

Junior

Ross 22 GCVI 5

The result leaves the Royals and Gaels tied with 2-1-0 records. Centre Wellington Falcons are at 2-0-0 while Centre Dufferin and Erin are tied at 0-2-0.

Mitchell Penner had a try and a convert for Ross while others with a try apiece included Tyler Baxter and William Rodenburgh.

Jimmy Huynh had a try for GCVI.

 

Girls

Ross 57 Guelph CVI 0

Anna Bernardi kicked six converts for undefeated Ross while Olivia Sarabura and Vanessa Thongsomsanith each scored two tries. Other tries were added by Kennedy Frost, Stephanie Svaikauskas, Courtney Ing and Aniela Breen.

 

Erin 19 Bishop Macdonell 15

The teams scored three tries apiece.
