Royals, Falcons post shutout girls’ hockey wins

GUELPH – The Ross Royals and Centre Wellington Falcons kept pace with one another atop the District 10 high school girls’ hockey standings as both posted shutout wins Thursday.

The Royals blanked the Lourdes Crusaders 3-0 at the Victoria Road arena while the Falcons shut out the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 5-0 at Exhibition arena.

Centre Wellington leads the league at 8-1-3 for 19 points, three more than the Royals who are at 7-1-2. Ross has two games in hand.

Centennial Spartans are third at 3-2-5 and are followed by St. James Lions at 3-3-3, Lourdes at 3-4-3, GCVI at 2-6-2 and Bishop Macdonell Celtics at 0-9-2.

Megan Gunn, Annie Lambkin and Sarah Taylor struck for the goals for Ross while Aniela Breen, Mikayla Kalverda and Skylar Simm each had one assist.

Martina Doyle picked up the shutout.


Centre Wellington 5 Guelph CVI 0

Kara den Hoed scored twice for Centre Wellington while Mackenzie Goodfellow, Allison Campbell and Emily Palmer added a goal apiece.

Leah Fogarty was credited with the shutout.
