Scannell qualifies 13th for season opener

TYRONE, Ont. – Matthew Scannell of Rockwood qualified 13th for Can-Am 200, the opening race of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, Saturday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Scannell qualified his OMVIC/Leland/Beyond Digital Ford in a time of one minute, 25.154 seconds for an average speed of 103.958 mph.

Kevin Lacroix of Saint-Eustache, Que., was fastest qualifier in his Bumper to Bumper/Total/Gates Dodge at 106.900 mph while Alex Tagliani of Laval, Que., was second in his EpiPen/Lowes/St. Hubert/Fast Wheels Dodge at 106.443 mph.

A total of 25 drivers qualified for the race.

Scannell was the 2014 rookie of the year in the series. In 24 races in the series, he has four top-10 finishes with a best of eighth in the 2014 season-ending race at Kawartha Speedway. He has led races at CTMP as his team has played a fuel mileage gamble in the past.

The Can-Am 200 is to go Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
