Schnarr’s quick start powers Storm to win

GUELPH – Nate Schnarr of the Guelph Storm was certainly ready to play when the puck dropped to start the Storm’s OHL game against the Kitchener Rangers Saturday at the Sleeman Centre.

He scored twice in the first six minutes of the game to spark the Storm to a 5-2 victory.

The Storm led 3-0 early in the second before the Rangers battled back to close the gap to a single goal with about 11 and a half minutes to go in the third, but the Storm responded with two goals in the final five minutes to secure the win.

James McEwan, Cedric Ralph and Cam Hillis also scored for the hosts while Zach Poirier and Ryan Merkley each had two assists. Getting one assist apiece were McEwan, Mark Woolley, Mark Shoemaker, Keegan Stevenson, Barret Kirwin and Isaac Ratcliffe.

Adam Liska and Logan Stanley scored for Kitchener while Rickard Hugg assisted on both goals. Liska also had an assist.

The Storm outshot the Rangers 32-21 and neither team recorded a power-play goal. Kitchener had five power plays and Guelph had three.

Anthony Popovich picked up the win in the Guelph net while Luke Richardson took the loss in net for Kitchener.

The Storm is third in the Midwest Division at 3-2-0-1 while Kitchener leads at 4-2-1-0.

Next game for the Storm is Wednesday when they’re to play the Flint Firebirds (3-2-0-0) at Flint’s Dort Federal Event Center. Game time is 7 p.m.
