Score in quarter-finals, you’re in field hockey semifinals
GUELPH – Every team that scored in the District 4/10 high schools girls’ field hockey league’s quarter-finals Monday advanced to the semifinals.
All four games finished with shutout wins as the Ross Royals, Guelph CVI Green Gaels, Bishop Macdonell Celtics and Orangeville Bears gained berths in the semifinals that are to be played at the University of Guelph’s Varsity Field Wednesday.
First-place Ross is to play fifth-place Orangeville at 2:30 p.m. and second-place GCVI is to play third-place Bishop Mac at 4 p.m.
Ross 5 Norwell 0
Ross received two goals apiece from Katelyn Fazzari and Sarah Taylor and one from Kaleigh Boyd in the win over the eighth-place Norwell Varsity Reds at Ross. Jordan Ronan and Mackenzie Mollison shared the shutout.
Guelph CVI 5 Centre Wellington 0
Jasmine Hasmatali had two goals for GCVI and Lorraine Vandermyden, Olivia Puddephatt and Maggie Smart added one apiece in the victory over the seventh-place Centre Wellington Falcons at Varsity Field. Lou Meloche had the shutout.
Bishop Macdonell 4 Centre Dufferin 0
Four players scored for Bishop Mac in the triumph over the sixth-place Centre Dufferin Royals at Varsity Field. Getting the goals were Quinn Bellini, Julia Billings, Nina Fisher and Georgia Merriman.
Orangeville 1 Centennial 0
Madison Elliot scored the game’s only goal as Orangeville edged the fourth-place Centennial Spartans at Ross. Orangeville and Centennial had finished the regular season with identical 4-3-1 records and Orangeville had scored five more goals during the regular season. However, Centennial was awarded fourth place due to a 2-0 win over Orangeville last week.
