Sharratt gets Guelph Lake One winning feeling again

GUELPH – David Sharratt of Guelph stood on the top step of the Subaru Ontario Triathlon Series podium for the first time in five years Sunday when he took the victory in the sprint triathlon.

Sharratt won the race that featured a 750-metre swim, 19-kilometre bike ride and five-kilometre run in one hour, four minutes and 27 seconds.

The win came five years and one day after he won the same event at the Guelph Lake One meet at and around the Guelph Lake Conservation Area in 2012. That year he won in 1:01:22.

Sharratt also won the Guelph Lake One Olympic triathlon, now known as the 5150 triathlon, in 2008.

Sunday, Peter Newhook of Toronto was second in 1:06:17 while Chris Howe of Toronto was third in 1:06:27.

Top female finisher was Erin Churchill of Oakville who completed the distance in 1:12:45, good for 21st overall. Runner-up in the class, 31st overall, was Rebecca Dolson of Guelph in 1:15:37.

Team DZ Two Moms and a Dad Bod won the spring relay in 1:06:54.0.

David Levy of Toronto took the sprint swim/bike in 49:31.3 while Jason Pluim of Hamilton was second in 49:31.3. Top female finisher, fifth overall in 1:02:25.9, was Barb Loeprich of Acton.

Brendan Saunders of Oakville won the sprint duathlon in 1:03:35.5 while Harold Walker of St. Thomas was second in 1:05:37.0. Top female finisher was Tara McAninch McLaren of Oakville, eighth overall in 1:09:42.3.
