Silvercreeks downed by Stratford Nationals

GUELPH – The Guelph Silvercreeks suffered their second loss of the week in Central Ontario Junior Baseball League play Wednesday night at Hastings Stadium.

The Creeks surrendered three runs in the first inning on their way to an 11-3 setback to the Stratford Nationals.

Monday, the Creeks were blanked 14-0 by the Burlington Bulls at Burlington’s Nelson Park.

The results leave the Creeks at 3-2-0 while both Stratford and Stratford have won both games they’ve played.

The Creeks are to play in the Mississauga North tournament this weekend. They’re in a pool with Royal York Two and Leaside. They’re to play Burlington Friday at 8:15 p.m., Hamilton One Saturday at 11:15 a.m. and Brampton Saturday at 3:45 p.m.

While the Creeks are in Division D, all their opponents are in Division C. Top four in the combined division standings advance to the quarter-finals along with the top two in each of Divisions A and B. Division A consists of Mississauga North A, Hamilton Two, New Lowell and Royal York One while Oakville, Mississauga North B, Niagara Falls and Mississauga Southwest are in Division B.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for Sunday at 9 a.m. while the semifinals are to go at noon and the final is set for 3 p.m.

Next scheduled league outing for the Creeks is June 7 against Oakville at Hastings Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
