Soccer report: Gryphs KDSL men edged by Owen Sound

OWEN SOUND – The Guelph Gryphons continue to look for their first win in the Kitchener and District Soccer League’s men’s division this season.

Saturday, the Gryphs were edged 1-0 by Owen Sound at Owen Sound’s Kiwanis Soccer Complex.

Mike Lopes scored the game’s only goal.

The Gryphs have dropped all four of their league game while the victory was Owen Sound’s first and it came after four consecutive setbacks.

The Gryphs are to play Guelph Galaxy (also 0-4-0) at the Guelph Lake Sports Fields June 21 at 8:45 p.m.



Regional South

VAUGHAN – The Guelph Oaks were handed a 5-1 setback by BAS Friday night at David Morrison Stadium.

Santiago Almada had the lone goal for the Oaks while Marcos Nunes had two goals for BAS and Kyle Sheppard, Shawn Couto and Rui Viveiros had one apiece.

The result left the Oaks at 0-2-1 and BAS at 1-1-1.

The Oaks are to host JJD Sports (0-1-0) June 17 at Centennial Bowl. Game time is 2 p.m.


Provincial West

MISSISSAUGA – The Guelph Gryphons were handed a 3-1 setback by Olimpia Toronto Thursday at Brickyard Park.

Kafui Hotsonyame had the lone goal for the Gryphs.

Olimpia received goals from Artur Grzegorczyk, Konrad Mularczyk and Patryk Korbut.

The loss drops the Gryphs to 0-2-0 while Olimpia improves to 1-1-0.

The Gryphs are to play Club Italia Juventus (0-1-1) at Niagara Sunday at 6 p.m.



Provincial South

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons battled Hamilton Sparta to a 1-1 standoff at the Gryphon Soccer Complex Thursday night.

Hayley Howes scored the goal for the Gryphs while Alexandra Riganelli had the lone goal for Hamilton.

The tie leaves the Gryphs at 2-1-1 and Hamilton at 0-1-1.

The Gryphs and Sparta are to play again Tuesday at Hamilton.


Provincial U21 South

GUELPH – The Gryphons Black were edged 1-0 by Kitchener Spirit in league play Thursday at Eastview Park.

Veronica Peterka scored the game’s only goal.

The Gryphs Black are at 1-3-0 on the season while Kitchener’s at 2-1-2.

Next game for the Gryphs Black is June 22 against Niagara United Blue (3-0-2) at Niagara.

Next game for the Gryphs Red (1-2-0) is June 18 against FC London (2-0-1) at London.
