Softball Gryphons rebound with sweep of McMaster

HAMILTON – The Guelph Gryphons bounced back from a pair of losses Friday night to sweep a Saturday doubleheader from the McMaster Marauders in Ontario Intercollegiate Women’s Fastpitch Association play Saturday afternoon at the Mohawk Sports Complex.

The Gryphs defeated McMaster 9-3 and 8-7 Saturday.

Friday, the Gryphs fell 9-2 and 11-9 to the Brock Badgers at Lancaster Park in St. Catharines.

Brock leads the league heading into Sunday’s play with a 7-1 record. The Badgers are followed by the Gryphs at 6-2, Toronto Varsity Blues at 5-3, Ottawa Gee-Gees at 5-5, Laurier Golden Hawks at 4-2, Western Mustangs at 3-1, Ryerson Rams and Windsor Lancers at 3-3, McMaster and Carleton Ravens at 3-5, Queen’s Gaels at 2-4, Waterloo Warriors at 1-5 and York Lions at 0-8.

Top eight advance to the league’s championship tournament hosted by the Ottawa Gee-Gees Oct. 12 to 14.

The Western Mustangs entered this season with a streak of eight consecutive league championship titles.
