Spencer women’s winner in Toronto Marathon

TORONTO – Michelle Spencer of Guelph was the first woman across the line in Sunday’s GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon.

Spencer completed the distance in three hours and 30.8 seconds to finish just under two and a half minutes ahead of runner-up Jane Weber of Toronto. Spencer was 27th overall.

The marathon started at Mel Lastman Square in North York and finished at Ontario Place.

Peter Kemboi of Etobicoke won in 2:41:06.3 while Jeremy Walsh of Waterdown was second, 54.2 seconds behind.

Six other Guelphites finished the marathon — Derek White in 3:14:06.9, Cathy Sheahan (3:44:39.9), Clare Devlin (3:56:49.1), Robert Winckler (3:58:40.2), Nicole Plat (4:09:18.1) and Brad Woods (4:48:12.9).

Brayden Gerrie of Fergus was 79th overall in 3:12:55.8.

Ten runners from Guelph completed the half marathon. They were Mariusz Rozanski (1:31:44.4), Vince Baldassarro (1:37:44.2), Adam Nowakowski (1:43:32.8), Marek Nowakowski (1:43:33.8), Richard McCurdy (1:50:24.2), Steve Higgins (1:52:18.9), Joanna Reeves (1:54:40.9), Kim Reeds (2:15:53.8), Mathew Wilson (2:17:11.7) and Bernadette Mitchell (2:45:47.6).

Jenni Judin of Rockwood finished in 1:35:59.1 while Philippe Leclerc of Rockwood (1:40:28.0) and Christine Sinka of Erin (02:14:05.9) also finished the half marathon.
