Grand River Gargoyles dropped by league leaders
GUELPH — The league-leading Toronto Rebels clobbered the Grand River Gargoyles 138-61 in Ontario Australian Football League play Saturday at Margaret Greene Park,
The Rebels jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they were up 38-6 at the end of the first quarter and 76-25 at halftime. They extended the margin to 97-37 in the third quarter.
Ashley Duncan kicked in eight goals for the Rebels while Michael Fabbri had seven. Robert Tersigni and Marc Roche added two apiece and Andrew Brown and Joshua Hegarty had one each.
Scoring details for the Gargoyles were not reported.
The Rebels top the league ladder at 8-1-0 while the Gargoyles are fourth at 5-4-0.
The Gargoyles are to play the Hamilton Wildcats (4-3-0) at Mohawk Park Aug. 13 at 12 noon.
Guelph Oaks U21 men tripled by FC London
GUELPH — The Guelph Oaks were handed a 6-2 setback by FC London in Ontario Soccer League Provincial U21 Elite play Saturday at the Centennial Bowl.
Nicholas Morrell and Dominic Janus scored the goals for the Oaks.
Jack Monyard and Jonathan Pereboom each fired in two goals for FC London while Braeden Gee and Chad Gopaul also scored.
The Oaks are ninth in the nine-team league at 1-13-0 while FC London is fifth at 9-7-0.
The Oaks have two games left on their season. They’re to play North Toronto (8-3-2) at Downsview Park Tuesday at 9 p.m. and host Toronto FC (8-3-3) at the Centennial Bowl Aug. 13 at 2 p.m.
