Elora Rocks dropped by Lucknow Lancers

LUCKNOW — The Elora Rocks were doubled 6-3 by the Lucknow Lancers in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior AA men’s hockey league play Saturday night at the Lucknow and District Sports Complex.

Details were not available.

The game was the third for the Rocks in their return to the league. They took a leave of absence last season due to a lack of players.

The Rocks split a pair of games at the Elora and District Community Centre in their return to league play on the Thanksgiving weekend as they were dropped 6-2 by the Tillsonburg Thunder before defeating the Ripley Wolves 4-1.

The Rocks are to play the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks (0-1-0) at Port Elgin Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Robert Wickens finishes fourth in DTM standings

HOCKENHEIM, Germany — Robert Wickens of Guelph scored two points in the final two races of the 2016 DTM series to place fourth in the final drivers standings.

Wickens finished ninth Sunday in the second of two races at the Hockenheimring circuit in his SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C63 to complete the season with 124 points.

Wickens’ championship aspirations were hit hard when he was limited to a total of six points in the final six races of the season.

Marco Wittmann of Germany won the series title in his BMW M4 with 206 points while Edoardo Mortara of Italy was second in his Audi RS5 with 202 points and Jamie Green of Britain was third in his Audi RS5 with 145 points.

 

FIELD LACROSSE

Losses leave Gryphon women fourth in West Division

PETERBOROUGH — The Guelph Gryphons completed the OUA women’s field lacrosse league’s regular season with a pair of losses at Trent University Saturday.

The Gryphs were downed 23-1 by the Trent Excalibur and 14-6 by the Queen’s Gaels.

Scoring details were not available.

Guelph finished the regular season winless in its last six games with five losses and a tie.

The Gryphs finished fourth in the West Division with a 4-8-1 record. They’re to play the UOIT Ridgebacks of Oshawa in the opening round of the league’s championship tournament Friday at McMaster.
