Junior Gryphons atom AE2 tie Tri-County final with Woolwich

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons pulled even with the Woolwich Wildcats in their six-point Tri-County Russell atom AE2 final with a 7-3 victory Saturday afternoon at the West End arena.

That result squares the series at four points apiece.

The home team has won each game of the series. Woolwich won 2-0 at Elmira last Sunday before the Junior Gryphs won 5-2 at Centennial arena Tuesday. The Wildcats regained the series lead with a 2-1 win at Elmira Thursday.

If the teams tie Sunday, a sixth game will be played Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Centennial arena.

 

Lakefield Chiefs square PJHL East final with Port Hope

PORT HOPE – A pair of goals in the second period sparked the Lakefield Chiefs to a 3-2 victory over the Port Hope Panthers in Provincial Junior Hockey League playoff action Saturday night at the Jack Burger Sports Complex.

The result tied the best-of-seven East Conference final at a win apiece.

Colton Armstrong had a shorthanded goal for Lakefield in the second before Aaron Vatcher added a power-play goal for the Chiefs just under two and a half minutes later.

Eric Oosting stretched the lead to three midway through the third.

Port Hope narrowed the gap with a two goals in the final three and a half minutes of the game, both scored with goaltender Sheldon Calbury on the bench in favour of an extra skater.

Kallen McFarland and Cameron Harris scored those goals.

Port Hope outshot Lakefield 40-20, but was scoreless on eight power plays while Lakefield went 1-for-5 on its power play.

Third game of the series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Lakefield.
