Occhiuto 24th in Ontario junior boys’ championship tourney

LISTOWEL — Anthony Occhiuto of Cutten Fields finished in a tie for 24th place in the Investors Group Ontario Junior Boys’ Championship tournament at the Listowel Golf Club.

Occhiuto finished the four-round tournament with a score of 5-over 293.

Peyton Callens of the Delhi Golf & Country Club was the winner at 6-under 282.



Guelph Redcoats fourth in OWL Firsts league standings

CAMBRIDGE — The Guelph Redcoats completed their first season in Rugby’s Ontario’s Ontario Women’s League in fourth place in the first-team standings.

The Redcoats finished their regular season with a 27-18 loss to second-place Waterloo County at Rogers Field.

The Redcoats finished at 5-5-0 while the Aurora Barbarians were first at 8-2-0 and Waterloo County and Toronto Saracens tied for second at 6-4-0.

Guelph is to play the Barbarians at Aurora in the semifinals Saturday. The Barbarians are the only team in the league to unbeaten at home in the regular season.

The Redcoats defeated the Barbarians 51-33 in Guelph June 18 and lost 51-32 at Aurora a week later.

Guelph’s second team finished the regular season in first place with a 9-1-0 record. The Redcoats defeated Waterloo County 12-0 to complete their regular season. Their to host Toronto Scottish (3-7-0) in the semifinals.

Most of Guelph’s players play on both the first and second teams.
