St. James Lions in CWOSSA AA girls’ soccer semifinals

BRANTFORD – The St. James Lions finished atop their pool following the preliminary round of the CWOSSA AA high school girls’ soccer championship tournament Wednesday.

The Lions won all three of their games to gain a berth in Thursday’s semifinals.

St. James defeated the Southwood Sabres of Cambridge 2-1, Westside Thunder of Orangeville 5-1 and St. Mary’s Mustangs of Owen Sound 2-0.

Scoring details were not reported.

Southwood was second in the pool at 2-1-0 while Westside and St. Mary’s finished with 0-2-1 records.

St. David Celtics of Waterloo was first in the other pool at 3-0-0 while the Paris Panthers were second at 2-1-0. The Saugeen Royals and Simcoe Composite Sabres both finished at 0-2-1.

Thursday’s semifinals at the Kiwanis Field in Brantford has St. David playing Southwood at 9:30 a.m. and St. James tangling with Paris at 10:45 a.m. Winners will meet in the 3:30 p.m. final.
