St. James suffers loss in AA volleyball consolation semifinals

BELLEVILLE – The St. James Lions dropped a heart-breaker in five sets to end their participation in the OFSAA provincial high school AA girls’ volleyball tournament in the consolation semifinals.

The Lions were edged 3-2 by the Lockerby Vikings of Sudbury as Lockerby won 17-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-14, 15-10.

Lockerby advanced to the consolation semifinal where they were defeated 3-1 by the College Avenue Knights of Woodstock. College Avenue won 19-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-23.

College Avenue had defeated Father Michael McGivney Magic of Markham 3-2 in the other semifinal, winning 23-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-12, 15-11.

Second-seed Corpus Christi Longhorns of Burlington took the gold-medal match 3-1 over top-seed Riverside Rebels of Windsor. Corpus Christi won 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 25-12.

The St. Mary Crusaders of Hamilton won the bronze-medal match 3-1 over the Silverthorn Spartans of Etobicoke as St. Mary prevailed 34-36, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22.
