St. James vaults into second in D4/10 baseball

GUELPH – The St. James Lions moved into second place in the District 4/10 high schools baseball league standings following a 6-1 win over the defending champion Ross Royals Thursday at Pearson Park.

Bishop Macdonell Celtics lead the league at 4-0-1 while the Lions are second at 3-1-1 and Ross third at 3-2-0.

Aden Piotto had a hit and two RBIs for the Lions while Nicholas Bombino drove in a run. Noah Campagnolo and Justin Power each had a hat and an RBI while Noah Graham doubled and scored on a passed ball.

Campagnolo yielded a run on three hits in four innings while Nick Lo Stracco pitched three scoreless innings and had four strikeouts.

For Ross, Blaise Shaw had two hits and drove in the run while Noah Devine hit a double. Shaw gave up a run in four innings on the mound for the Royals. He had three strikeouts.

 

Bishop Macdonell 2 Guelph CVI 2

Jacob McWhirter started on the mound for Bishop Mac and he yielded one run in four innings and had four strikeouts. Cristian Henriquez surrendered a run in one inning and Tyler Monks held the Gaels scoreless in two innings. He had two strikeouts.

At the plate, Monks went 1-for-3 with a run-scoring double while Matthew Bracnik went 1-for-3 and drove in a run and Adam Perry went 1-for-3 and scored a run.

Ryan Kush gave up a run in four innings for the Gaels. He had six strikeouts. Mark Caswell relieved for the final three innings and he yielded a run and also had six strikeouts.

Ryan Kush went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a run for GCVI while Jacob Kush went 1-for-3 with the hit being a double.
