Stanley, McCaig claim 10K wins at Guelph Lake

GUELPH – Matt Stanley of Guelph was victorious on a humid Sunday morning in the Guelph Lake 10K at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area.

Stanley finished two laps of the five-kilometre course on the winding and hilly roads inside the conservation area in a time of 38 minutes and 37.1 seconds.

Brandon Guild of Brampton was second in 39:36.9 and Chris Shaw of Guelph third in 39:54.1. Omid Fotuhi of Pittsburgh placed fourth in 43:19.0.

Top female finisher was Cassandra McCaig of Guelph who was fifth overall in 43:34.3 while Jenni Judin of Campbellville was second, sixth overall, in 43:44.8.

Rounding out the top 10 were Derek Hall of Guelph in seventh at 44:47.7, Annika Nicholson of Kitchener in eighth at 45:08.2, Jennifer Lynn Schneider of Guelph in ninth at 46:30.2 and Lee Frank of Guelph in 10th at 46:56.3.

A total of 56 runners completed the race.

Thomas Hope of Waterloo won the Guelph Lake 5K in 17:10.4 while Emma Plater of Guelph was top female finisher, second overall in 19:47.2. Third was Paul Braun of Kitchener in 19:54.9 and he was followed by Murilo Romulo Carvalho of Guelph in 19:59.7, Paul Cook of Goderich in 20:36.3, Art Kilgour of Guelph in 20:50.8 and nine-year-old Wyatt Hackner of Guelph seventh overall in 21:06.0.

A total of 123 participants finished the event.

Next local race is the Speed River Inferno’s Campus Mile that is to start at Creelman Hall Wednesday at 6:40 p.m.
