Storm falls to London Knights in overtime

GUELPH – Liam Foudy opened and closed the scoring in the game as his goals helped the London Knights slip by the Guelph Storm 3-2 in overtime in OHL play Sunday at the Sleeman Centre.

The Storm and Knights were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period before a scoreless second.

Isaac Ratcliffe put the Storm ahead at 11:55 of the third, but the lead didn’t last long as Billy Moskal pulled London even 12 seconds later.

The next goal was Foudy’s game-winner at 3:48 of overtime.

Alexey Toropchenko scored the Storm’s other goal while Nate Schnarr assisted on both goals and Owen Lalonde and Dmitri Samorukov each had one assist.

Alex Formenton, Alec Regula, Evan Bouchard, Riley Coome and Moskal collected one assist each for London.

The Storm outshot London 35-31 and went 1-for-3 on their power play while London was scoreless on two power plays.

Anthony Popovich took the overtime loss in net for the Storm while Joseph Raaymakers picked up the win for London.

The result leaves London in fourth place in the Western Conference standings at 29-20-2-2, good for 62 points. The Knights are three points ahead of the fifth-place Storm (27-21-2-3). Saginaw Spirit (25-19-8-0) are sixth at 58 points, Owen Sound Attack (25-20-2-5) seventh at 57 and Windsor Spitfires (25-24-2-2) eighth at 54.

The Storm is to host the Ottawa 67’s (23-21-5-3) Friday at 7:30 p.m.
