Storm falls to Petes to begin eastern swing
PETERBOROUGH – The Guelph Storm started their eastern trip with a 4-2 loss to the Peterborough Petes Thursday night in OHL play at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
While the Storm outshot the Petes 46-29, they surrendered at least one goal in each period as they trailed 2-1 at the end of the first and 3-2 after the second. The Petes wrapped up the scoring in the third with an empty-net goal with eight seconds to go.
Cedric Ralph and Cam Hillis hit for the goals for the Storm while assists went to Nate Schnarr and Ryan Merkley.
Nikita Korostelev led Peterborough with two goals and an assist. Pavel Gogolev and Bobby Dow also scored while Chad Denault, Matthew Timms, Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, Zach Gallant, Nick Robertson and Logan DeNoble also had assists.
Anthony Popovich was in net for the Storm and he made 25 saves while Dylan Wells had 44 saves to get the win for the Petes.
The Petes scored on both of their power plays while the Storm was held scoreless on its lone power play.
The Storm is third in the Midwest Division and seventh in the Western Conference at 19-17-1-3 and is three points ahead of the Owen Sound Attack (16-16-2-5), fourth in the division and eighth in the conference. The Petes are fourth in the East Division and seventh in the Eastern Conference at 17-21-2-1.
Guelph’s eastern swing continues Friday with a game against the Kingston Frontenacs (20-13-3-3) at Kingston’s Rogers K-Rock Centre at 7 p.m. and wraps up Sunday with a 2 p.m. game against the Ottawa 67’s (16-19-2-2) at Ottawa’s TD Place.
